Treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) such as difficulty in urination, weak stream, incomplete bladder emptying, urinary frequency/urgency and nocturia.
Silodosin is a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck. This reduces urethral resistance and improves urine flow and BPH symptoms.
Oral capsule. Usually taken once daily with food (preferably the same meal each day); swallow whole with water, do not crush or open. Dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor.
Dizziness,postural hypotension (drop in BP on standing),headache,nasal congestion,diarrhea,nausea,retrograde ejaculation/abnormal ejaculation,weakness
May cause dizziness or fainting especially when starting treatment or with dose changes—rise slowly from sitting/lying; avoid driving until you know its effects. Use with caution in kidney impairment and avoid/use only on medical advice in severe renal impairment; avoid in severe liver impairment. Inform surgeon/ophthalmologist before cataract/glaucoma surgery (risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome). Not for use in women or children. Seek help for severe allergic reaction or persistent troublesome side effects.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin) increase silodosin levels—avoid. Other alpha-blockers or antihypertensives may increase risk of low BP. PDE5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) may increase hypotension risk. Grapefruit juice may increase levels—use caution.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in original pack, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
