Sitaglyn 50 Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Sitagliptin 50 mg. It is used for type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It belongs to the group of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin).
Take by mouth as directed by the doctor, usually once daily. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Sitaglyn 50 Tablet are headache, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection and nausea. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Sitaglyn 50 Tablet works.
Most side effects of Sitaglyn are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take by mouth as directed by the doctor, usually once daily. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water at the same time each day. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, lowering blood glucose with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment required) and in elderly; monitor renal function. Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain (possible pancreatitis), signs of serious allergic reaction/angioedema, severe joint pain, or blistering rash (bullous pemphigoid). Hypoglycaemia risk increases when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas; dose adjustment of those agents may be needed.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), digoxin (may increase digoxin levels; monitor), strong P-gp/CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers (clinically limited effect but caution), alcohol (may worsen glycaemic control)
