Barrier contraception to help prevent pregnancy; helps reduce risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV when used correctly
Acts as a physical barrier that prevents semen from entering the vagina during intercourse. When used consistently and correctly, it also reduces skin-to-skin and fluid exposure, lowering STI transmission risk.
Use one condom for each act of intercourse. Put on only when penis is erect before any genital contact; pinch the tip to leave space and unroll to the base. Use only water-based lubricant unless the pack states otherwise; avoid oil-based products. After ejaculation, hold the rim and withdraw while still erect; remove and dispose in a bin (do not flush).
Latex allergy/irritation, itching, rash, burning sensation, genital discomfort
Check expiry date and integrity of pack before use; do not use if packet is torn or condom is brittle/sticky. Single-use only; do not reuse or use two condoms together. Stop use and seek medical advice if signs of allergy occur. Oil-based lubricants (petroleum jelly, oils, lotions) can weaken latex and increase breakage. Not 100% effective for pregnancy or STI prevention; proper use is essential.
