Treatment and prevention of peptic ulcers (duodenal and gastric), gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux symptoms and ulcer-related pain; prophylaxis of stress ulcers as advised by doctor
Sucralfate is a mucosal protectant that forms a viscous, adhesive barrier over ulcerated areas in the presence of stomach acid. This protective layer shields the ulcer from acid, pepsin and bile salts and promotes healing.
Take orally exactly as prescribed. Usually taken on an empty stomach (about 1 hour before meals and at bedtime). Swallow with water; do not take with antacids within 30 minutes, and separate from other medicines by at least 2 hours unless advised.
Constipation, nausea, dry mouth, stomach discomfort, indigestion, dizziness
Use with caution in kidney disease/dialysis (risk of aluminium accumulation). May reduce absorption of many oral medicines—maintain time gap. Avoid in known hypersensitivity to sucralfate. If symptoms persist, vomiting blood/black stools or severe abdominal pain occurs, seek medical advice.
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin/norfloxacin/ofloxacin), tetracyclines, levothyroxine, digoxin, phenytoin, warfarin, theophylline—absorption may decrease; antacids can interfere if taken too close; separate dosing by 2 hours (or as advised).
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
