Monograph
Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to improve blood glucose control), as monotherapy or add-on therapy with other antidiabetic medicines along with diet and exercise
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, lowering blood sugar with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Tablet for oral use. Usually taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor; continue diet/exercise and regular glucose monitoring.
Nasopharyngitis, headache, dizziness, constipation, abdominal discomfort, nausea, upper respiratory tract infection, hypoglycaemia (mainly when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in renal impairment and hepatic impairment; dose adjustment/monitoring as advised by physician. Stop and seek medical help if severe abdominal pain occurs (possible pancreatitis) or signs of hypersensitivity (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty). Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly; risk of hypoglycaemia increases when used with sulfonylureas/insulin (may require dose reduction of those agents).
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), strong enzyme inducers (may reduce effect), other antidiabetic drugs (additive glucose lowering)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
