Type 2 diabetes mellitus: to improve blood glucose control in adults when diet and exercise are not sufficient; used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed.
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), leading to increased insulin release and reduced glucagon in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Typically taken once daily with/after food (preferably with the main meal) to reduce stomach upset; swallow whole (do not crush/chew if SR/ER). Dose adjustments are based on blood sugar control and kidney function.
Nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, constipation, upper respiratory tract infection, hypoglycaemia (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas)
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney disease, severe dehydration, sepsis, heavy alcohol use, liver disease, or hypoxia/heart failure; assess renal function before and during therapy. Temporarily stop metformin before iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Pancreatitis and severe joint pain have been reported with DPP-4 inhibitors—seek medical help for severe abdominal pain. Monitor blood glucose; risk of hypoglycaemia increases when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, cationic drugs affecting renal tubular secretion (e.g., cimetidine), diuretics/ACE inhibitors/NSAIDs (may affect kidney function), insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), corticosteroids and sympathomimetics (may raise blood glucose)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
