Theo Asthalin Tablet

Theo Asthalin Tablet contains Salbutamol + Theophylline. Prescription required.

Relief and prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema; wheezing and shortness of breath.

Asthalin contains salbutamol, a selective beta-2 agonist that relaxes airway smooth muscles and opens up the bronchial tubes. The “Theo” component commonly refers to theophylline, a bronchodilator that helps relax airway muscles and may reduce airway responsiveness, improving airflow.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Usually taken after food to reduce stomach upset; swallow with water and do not crush/chew if it is a sustained/controlled-release tablet. Take at the same time daily; do not exceed the prescribed dose. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose.

Use with caution in heart disease/arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, and in the elderly. Theophylline (if present) has a narrow safety margin—overdose can cause severe vomiting, rapid heartbeat, low potassium, seizures and serious rhythm problems; seek urgent help if these occur. Avoid excess caffeine and other stimulants. Inform doctor if you have liver disease, fever, or if you smoke, as these can change theophylline levels. Not for rapid relief of an acute severe asthma attack unless advised; keep a rescue inhaler as prescribed.

Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce bronchodilation, other sympathomimetics may increase side effects, diuretics/corticosteroids may increase risk of low potassium, MAO inhibitors/TCAs may increase cardiovascular effects. If theophylline is present: erythromycin/clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin, fluconazole, cimetidine, oral contraceptives may increase levels; rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine and smoking may decrease levels; caffeine may increase side effects.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
