Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as an adjunct to diet and exercise) when glycaemic control is inadequate with metformin alone or when already treated with vildagliptin and metformin.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, tremor, hypoglycaemia (especially with other antidiabetics), upper respiratory tract infection, elevated liver enzymes

Oral tablet. Take with food to reduce stomach upset; usually taken once or twice daily as prescribed. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew. Dose and schedule should be individualized based on blood sugar, kidney function and tolerance.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, tremor, hypoglycaemia (especially with other antidiabetics), upper respiratory tract infection, elevated liver enzymes
Prescription medicine. Risk of lactic acidosis with metformin (higher risk in severe kidney disease, dehydration, sepsis, hypoxia, excessive alcohol use); stop and seek urgent care if severe weakness, rapid breathing, abdominal pain or drowsiness occur. Check kidney function before and during therapy; not recommended in severe renal impairment. Monitor liver function with vildagliptin; discontinue if jaundice or persistent LFT elevation. Use caution in pancreatitis history; stop if severe persistent abdominal pain. Hold metformin on the day of iodinated contrast procedures and during major surgery as advised by doctor.
