Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to improve blood sugar control), used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines along with diet and exercise

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhances glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, thereby lowering blood glucose.

Take orally as prescribed by the doctor, usually once or twice daily. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day and swallow the tablet with water.

Headache, dizziness, nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, tremor, weakness, low blood sugar (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas)

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment; liver function tests may be monitored. Stop and seek medical help if symptoms of pancreatitis occur (severe abdominal pain), allergic reactions, or skin blistering/peeling. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Use cautiously in elderly and follow diet/exercise advice.

Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride) may increase hypoglycaemia risk; ACE inhibitors may increase risk of angioedema; caution with other drugs affecting glucose control (e.g., corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
