Voglibose is an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor that delays the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine. This reduces the rise in blood sugar after meals and helps improve overall glycaemic control.

Use with caution in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, chronic intestinal disorders, or severe renal/hepatic impairment. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases when combined with sulfonylureas or insulin; treat low sugar with glucose (dextrose) rather than sucrose. Monitor blood glucose/HbA1c; stop and seek care if severe abdominal symptoms occur. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Drug Interactions
Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride), other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia); digestive enzyme preparations (amylase/pancreatin) and intestinal adsorbents may reduce effect; corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormones and sympathomimetics may worsen glycaemic control.
