Type 2 diabetes mellitus; used to control post-meal and fasting blood glucose in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.

Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays carbohydrate digestion and absorption in the intestine, reducing post-meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body use glucose better.

Take orally exactly as prescribed. Typically taken with meals; voglibose is usually taken just before the first bite of each main meal. Swallow tablet with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Dose is individualized based on blood sugar and tolerability.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, loss of appetite, headache, taste disturbance

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, unusual sleepiness, or abdominal discomfort. Use caution in kidney or liver disease, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol misuse, and in elderly patients; renal function monitoring is advised. Temporary stoppage may be needed before iodinated contrast imaging or major surgery (as per doctor). Risk of hypoglycaemia increases if used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Alcohol, insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics and ACE inhibitors (may affect renal function), systemic corticosteroids (may raise glucose)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
