Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus—post‑prandial (after meal) blood glucose control; used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines along with diet and exercise
Voglibose is an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor that delays breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine. This reduces the rise in blood glucose after meals.
Oral mouth-dissolving tablet: place on the tongue and allow to dissolve, then swallow; usually taken just before the start of a meal or with the first bite as prescribed. Follow diet/exercise advice and monitor blood glucose regularly.
Flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with intestinal disorders (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, intestinal obstruction), severe digestive problems, or significant liver impairment; monitor liver enzymes if advised. May cause hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas—carry glucose; treat low sugar with glucose/dextrose (table sugar may be less effective as absorption is delayed).
Insulin, sulfonylureas and other antidiabetics (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), intestinal adsorbents/digestive enzyme preparations (may reduce effect), corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/diuretics/sympathomimetics (may raise blood glucose), alcohol (may affect glycaemic control)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light; keep tablets in original pack and out of reach of children.
