Treatment of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) such as weak urine stream, difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, and incomplete bladder emptying.

Tamsulosin is an alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck. This reduces resistance to urine flow and improves urinary symptoms of BPH.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily after the same meal each day. Swallow the tablet/capsule whole; do not crush, chew, or open. If you miss a dose, take the next dose at the usual time; do not double dose.

May cause dizziness/fainting, especially after the first dose or dose changes—rise slowly from sitting/lying. Use caution in patients with low blood pressure, severe liver disease, or severe kidney problems. Inform your eye surgeon before cataract/glaucoma surgery (risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome). Seek urgent care for prolonged painful erection (priapism) or severe allergic reaction.

Other alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin/doxazosin),PDE-5 inhibitors (sildenafil/tadalafil) and other antihypertensives (additive hypotension),Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole,clarithromycin,ritonavir) and CYP2D6 inhibitors (paroxetine) may increase levels,Cimetidine may increase levels,Warfarin (monitor; potential interaction)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
