Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with diet, exercise and/or single/dual oral antidiabetic medicines; helps control post-meal and fasting glucose.
How It Works
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Voglibose (an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor) slows carbohydrate digestion in the gut, reducing post-meal blood sugar spikes.
Directions for Use
Take exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once daily with the main meal (often breakfast) to reduce stomach side effects and risk of hypoglycaemia; swallow whole (do not crush/chew) especially if it is sustained/extended-release metformin. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.
Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, hypoglycaemia (sweating, tremor, hunger), weight gain, metallic taste
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher if meals are skipped, with alcohol, or with other antidiabetics); do not use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with severe kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, shock, heavy alcohol use; kidney function monitoring required. Use caution in liver disease, elderly, malnutrition, and in patients with adrenal/pituitary insufficiency. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast studies or major surgery as advised by doctor. Seek urgent care for symptoms of severe hypoglycaemia or lactic acidosis (rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, confusion).

Drug Interactions
Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis), iodinated contrast media, other antidiabetic drugs/insulin (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and diuretics (may raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), cimetidine and other drugs affecting renal clearance (may increase metformin levels), NSAIDs/salicylates/sulfonamides (may increase hypoglycaemia risk)
Storage Instructions
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
