Voglibose delays intestinal carbohydrate absorption by inhibiting alpha‑glucosidase, reducing post‑meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Glimepiride increases insulin release from the pancreas, helping lower blood glucose.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Typically taken once daily with the first main meal; swallow whole (do not crush/chew due to SR metformin). Voglibose component works best when taken just before or with meals; follow your doctor’s timing instructions. Monitor blood sugar regularly.
Hypoglycaemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, metallic taste
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, or with other antidiabetics); carry glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, hypothermia; risk increases with kidney/liver impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, or alcohol excess. Avoid in severe renal impairment; dose adjustment/monitoring needed in reduced kidney function. Stop temporarily before/after iodinated contrast imaging and during major surgery or acute illness as advised. Use caution in elderly, malnourished, and in G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolysis with sulfonylureas).
Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta‑blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/diuretics (may raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk), fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances), azole antifungals/macrolides (may increase glimepiride effect), rifampicin/phenytoin (may reduce glimepiride effect), iodinated contrast media (metformin—lactic acidosis risk), cimetidine (increases metformin levels)
