Uses & Benefits
Treatment of diabetes mellitus (Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes when insulin is required) to control blood glucose; management of hyperglycaemia in hospital settings as advised by doctor
How It Works
Regular human insulin replaces/supplements endogenous insulin. It helps glucose enter muscle and fat cells and reduces glucose production by the liver, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.
Directions for Use
For subcutaneous injection using the prefilled disposable pen as prescribed by a doctor. Regular insulin is typically taken about 30 minutes before meals; rotate injection sites (abdomen/thigh/upper arm) and do not inject into areas that are red, swollen or lumpy. Do not share the pen; use a new needle for each injection and follow pen priming/usage instructions.
Side Effects
Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar),injection site reactions (pain/redness/swelling),weight gain, skin thickening or pits at injection site (lipodystrophy),rash, itching, peripheral oedema
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of hypoglycaemia—carry glucose/sugar and know symptoms (sweating, tremor, confusion). Dose needs adjustment with changes in diet, exercise, illness, kidney/liver impairment, or switching insulin products. Do not use during episodes of hypoglycaemia or if allergic to insulin/excipients. Use caution while driving/operating machinery if prone to low sugars. Rotate sites to reduce lipodystrophy. Monitor blood glucose regularly; seek medical help for severe hypoglycaemia or persistent hyperglycaemia/ketosis.
