Used to treat inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as asthma and severe allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, dermatologic inflammation, and other conditions where suppression of inflammation/immune response is required.

Deflazacort is a corticosteroid that reduces the release of inflammatory mediators and suppresses immune system activity. This decreases swelling, redness, pain, and allergic-type symptoms in steroid-responsive conditions.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, preferably at the same time each day; usually taken with food to reduce stomach upset. Do not stop suddenly—dose is typically tapered if used for more than a few days.

Long-term or high-dose use may cause adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, cataract/glaucoma, muscle weakness, infections, and delayed wound healing. Use with caution in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, glaucoma, tuberculosis or other infections. Avoid exposure to chickenpox/measles; seek medical advice if exposed. Do not receive live vaccines while on immunosuppressive doses. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

NSAIDs/aspirin (GI bleed risk), antidiabetics/insulin (may need dose adjustment), anticoagulants like warfarin (INR changes), diuretics (hypokalemia), CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampicin/phenytoin/carbamazepine (reduced effect), CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole/ritonavir (increased side effects), vaccines (reduced response; avoid live vaccines)
