Misoprostol (200mcg)

Medical termination of pregnancy (as per approved regimen, usually with mifepristone), prevention/treatment of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in high-risk patients, cervical ripening and induction of labour (only under specialist supervision where indicated).

Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue. It reduces gastric acid secretion and increases mucus/bicarbonate protection in the stomach. In the uterus it causes cervical softening and uterine contractions, helping expel uterine contents.

Tablet for oral/buccal/sublingual/vaginal use only as prescribed. For ulcer prevention, usually taken with food and at bedtime; swallow with water. For obstetric/abortion indications, route and timing depend on protocol—use only under medical supervision and follow the exact regimen.

Diarrhoea, abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, headache, dizziness, fever/chills, uterine cramps, vaginal bleeding/spotting

Contraindicated in pregnancy when used for ulcer prevention (can cause miscarriage, severe bleeding, preterm labour). For pregnancy termination/obstetric use, only under qualified medical supervision with access to emergency care. Seek urgent help for very heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fainting, or fever lasting >24 hours. Use reliable contraception during and after use as advised. Caution in inflammatory bowel disease, dehydration, cardiovascular disease, renal impairment. Not for self-medication.

NSAIDs (used together for ulcer prophylaxis but diarrhoea risk may increase), magnesium-containing antacids (may worsen diarrhoea), oxytocin/other uterotonics (additive uterine stimulation—use only under specialist guidance)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister until use. Keep out of reach of children.
