Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and post-operative nausea and vomiting
Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist. It blocks serotonin receptors in the gut and in the brain’s vomiting center, reducing nausea and vomiting.
Mouth dissolving tablet: place on tongue and allow to dissolve; swallow saliva (water not required). Take as prescribed; may be taken with or without food. Do not chew or crush; handle with dry hands.
Headache, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, flushing
Use with caution in patients with prolonged QT interval, heart rhythm disorders, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/magnesium), severe liver impairment, or bradyarrhythmias. Seek urgent care for palpitations, fainting, or severe dizziness. Risk of serotonin syndrome when used with other serotonergic medicines. Not for hypersensitivity to ondansetron/other 5-HT3 antagonists. May cause drowsiness in some patients—avoid driving if affected.
QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, antipsychotics), serotonergic drugs (SSRIs/SNRIs, MAOIs, tramadol, linezolid), apomorphine (contraindicated due to severe hypotension/LOC), enzyme inducers (phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin) may reduce effect
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack until use.
