Zorbax Suspension 125 mg/5 ml

Zorbax Suspension 125 mg/5 ml contains Cefuroxime axetil 125 mg/5 mL (oral suspension). Prescription required.

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, otitis media (ear infection), tonsillitis/pharyngitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

Cefuroxime axetil is a prodrug that is converted to cefuroxime in the body. Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial death.

Oral suspension. Shake well before each use. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/cup/syringe and take as prescribed by the doctor, preferably with food to improve absorption. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve; do not skip doses.

Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, rash, urticaria, candidiasis (thrush), transient liver enzyme increase

Use only for bacterial infections (not for viral illnesses). Inform doctor if history of allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins (risk of hypersensitivity). Use with caution in kidney impairment—dose adjustment may be needed. Prolonged use may cause superinfection (e.g., fungal) and antibiotic-associated diarrhea; seek care if severe/persistent diarrhea occurs. May affect some lab tests (e.g., Coombs test); inform lab/doctor.

Probenecid (increases cefuroxime levels), warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk—monitor INR), antacids/H2 blockers/PPIs (may reduce absorption), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect)

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store as directed on label (often refrigerated 2–8°C) and use within the specified period; do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
