Uses & Benefits
Allergic rhinitis (seasonal/perennial) with sneezing, runny/blocked nose, itchy/watery eyes; allergy-related cough/wheeze; adjunct in prevention/control of asthma symptoms as advised by doctor.
How It Works
Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors to reduce sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks inflammatory leukotrienes, helping relieve nasal congestion and allergy-related bronchospasm.
Directions for Use
Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily (often in the evening). Can be taken with or without food; swallow whole with water. Do not stop/start asthma medicines without medical advice.
May cause drowsiness—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Use with caution in liver disease and in severe kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed for cetirizine). Montelukast has been associated with mood/behavior changes (agitation, anxiety, sleep disturbances, depression, suicidal thoughts); seek medical help if such symptoms occur. Not for acute asthma attacks. Inform doctor about all medicines and allergies.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), sedating antihistamines, opioids/benzodiazepines, rifampicin and other enzyme inducers (may reduce montelukast effect), phenobarbital, phenytoin, gemfibrozil (may increase montelukast levels)
