What is the Anti-CCP Test?

The anti-CCP test looks for antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides, which are highly specific for rheumatoid arthritis. It is usually done with rheumatoid factor (RF) when joint pain and swelling suggest rheumatoid arthritis.

Positive
Strongly supports rheumatoid arthritis when joint symptoms are present, and is linked to more joint damage over time. Under the 2010 ACR/EULAR criteria, a level above 3 times the upper limit counts as high positive.
Positive without symptoms
Can appear years before rheumatoid arthritis starts. It is not treated on its own, but new joint symptoms should be checked early.
Negative
Makes rheumatoid arthritis less likely but does not rule it out; about a third of people with rheumatoid arthritis test negative.
