Amoxicillin 400 mg + Clavulanic Acid (as potassium clavulanate) 57 mg per 5 ml oral suspension (DS)
Treatment of bacterial infections such as ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections caused by susceptible organisms.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzyme breakdown, extending its spectrum against beta-lactamase–producing bacteria.
Oral suspension: reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark and shake well. Give the dose as prescribed by the doctor, preferably at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Shake well before each dose, measure with a dosing spoon/syringe, complete the full course, and do not stop early even if symptoms improve.
Common side effects of AUGPEN DS SUS may include:
Prescription antibiotic—use only for bacterial infections. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or history of severe hypersensitivity reactions. Use with caution in liver disease; may rarely cause hepatitis/jaundice—seek care if yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, severe fatigue. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. Prolonged use may cause superinfection. If severe diarrhoea, blood in stools, or severe skin rash occurs, stop and consult a doctor immediately.
