Bactrim DS Tablet contains Sulfamethoxazole (800mg) + Trimethoprim (160mg).
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Bactrim DS Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. These antibiotics work by preventing the bacteria from producing folic acid, a nutrient required for bacterial multiplication. Together, they treat your infection effectively.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Bactrim DS Tablet should be taken with or after food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Bactrim DS Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Bactrim DS than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Bactrim DS are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Bactrim DS. Some combinations can change how Bactrim DS works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Bactrim DS below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
You have been prescribed Bactrim DS Tablet for the treatment of many types of bacterial infections. Finish the prescribed course of Bactrim DS Tablet, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools. Stop taking Bactrim DS Tablet and inform your doctor if you develop skin rash/blisters or other unexplained skin reaction while taking Bactrim DS Tablet. In case of long-term use, have regular monthly blood tests to monitor your blood cells as suggested by your doctor.
