How Barclav Pd Suspension works

Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension is an antibiotic. It has two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas, clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

How to take Barclav Pd Suspension

Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied — a kitchen spoon is not an accurate measure. Take it with or just after food. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses.

Interactions with other medicines

May reduce the reliability of the oral contraceptive pill if you have vomiting or loose motions — use additional precautions during the course. Tell your doctor if you take methotrexate or a blood thinner.

How to store Barclav Pd Suspension

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep out of reach of children. For dry syrup/suspension, follow label for reconstitution and use within the specified days; keep cap tightly closed.

Expert advice for Barclav Pd Suspension

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Barclav PD 200mg/28.5mg Suspension immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
