Composition of Cadomer Ointment

Cadomer Ointment contains Cadexomer Iodine 0.9% w/w ointment (equivalent to 0.9% available iodine). It belongs to the Iodine-releasing topical antimicrobial (cadexomer iodine) class of medicines.

How Cadomer Ointment works

Cadexomer is a starch-based polymer that absorbs wound exudate and debris. It slowly releases iodine, providing broad-spectrum antiseptic action and helping reduce bacterial load and odour, thereby supporting wound healing.

How to take Cadomer Ointment

For external use only. Clean the wound and apply a thin layer (about 2–3 mm) of ointment to cover the wound bed; cover with a suitable dressing. Change dressing and reapply as directed (often once daily or when the dressing becomes saturated/colour fades). Do not use for more than advised by a clinician.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Cadomer as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use, but swallowing an antiseptic is dangerous and needs immediate medical attention. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Cadomer Ointment

Most side effects of Cadomer are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• dry skin

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use if allergic to iodine/any ingredient. Use with caution in thyroid disorders, patients on lithium, and in extensive wounds/burns due to possible iodine absorption. Avoid use in children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed. Do not use before/after radio-iodine investigations. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling, or signs of systemic iodine effects occur. Not for eyes, mouth, or deep puncture wounds.

Do not take Cadomer if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Lithium (increased risk of thyroid dysfunction), other topical antiseptics/mercurials or silver-containing dressings (may reduce efficacy/irritation), radio-iodine diagnostics/therapy (interference), thyroid medications (monitor if prolonged/large-area use)

How to store Cadomer Ointment

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep tube tightly closed, protected from heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Clean the wound under running water first, then apply. Cover a clean wound with a sterile dressing and change it if it becomes wet or dirty.
