Clinaxon 500 contains Citicoline (500mg). It belongs to the Second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic class of medicines.

How Clinaxon 500 works

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective only against bacterial infections, not viral illnesses.

How to take Clinaxon 500

Tablet to be taken orally as prescribed by a doctor. Usually taken after food to improve absorption; swallow whole with water. Complete the full prescribed course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Clinaxon 500 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, confusion and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Clinaxon 500

Most side effects of Clinaxon are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• headache
• dizziness
• rash
• increased liver enzymes
• vaginal yeast infection

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for confirmed/suspected bacterial infection. Do not use if allergic to cefuroxime/cephalosporins; use caution in patients with penicillin allergy. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. Prolonged use may cause superinfection (e.g., fungal) and antibiotic-associated diarrhoea/Clostridioides difficile; seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea. Inform doctor if you have history of colitis, severe kidney disease, or are on anticoagulants.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids/H2 blockers or PPIs may reduce absorption (separate dosing), probenecid (may increase cefuroxime levels), oral anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), oral contraceptives (may reduce effectiveness—use backup method), diuretics/aminoglycosides (increased risk of kidney effects)

How to store Clinaxon 500

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Clinaxon 500 Tablet helps in the treatment of stroke, head injury, Alzheimer's disease, and dementia in Parkinson's disease. Do not take this medicine in higher amounts or frequency than that told by your doctor. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you. Inform your doctor if you develop an allergic reaction after taking the medication. Side effects such as trouble sleeping, diarrhea, stomach pain, decreased blood pressure, irregular heart rate may occur with Clinaxon 500 Tablet. These may not be with everyone. Any of the side effects other than those mentioned above if occur, do consult the treating physician.
