How Dexadine Ointment works

It contains a topical corticosteroid that reduces release of inflammatory chemicals in the skin. This decreases redness, swelling and itching.

How to take Dexadine Ointment

Apply a thin layer to the affected area as advised by the doctor, usually 1–2 times daily. Use on clean, dry skin; avoid eyes, mouth and broken skin unless prescribed. Wash hands after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Dexadine as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Dexadine than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Dexadine Ointment

Most side effects of Dexadine are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

For external use only. Do not use for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections unless prescribed with appropriate anti-infective therapy. Avoid prolonged use, use on large areas, occlusion, and use on face/groin/armpits unless directed—may cause skin thinning and other steroid effects. Use caution in children and in patients with diabetes; stop and consult a doctor if irritation, worsening, or signs of infection occur.

Interactions with other medicines

No major interactions expected with topical use; increased risk of steroid side effects with occlusive dressings or concurrent use of other potent topical steroids on the same area.

How to store Dexadine Ointment

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
