How to take Efetil Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Efetil Tablet should be taken with or after food.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Efetil Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

See a doctor if a cough lasts more than a week, or comes with fever, breathlessness, chest pain or blood in the sputum. Do not give cough and cold preparations to young children except on a doctor's advice. Do not combine two cough preparations — they frequently contain the same ingredients, and the doses add up. Preparations containing codeine can cause dependence and must be used only for the period your doctor specifies.

Do not take Efetil if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty.

Interactions with other medicines

Sedating ingredients add to the effect of alcohol and sleeping tablets. Decongestants such as phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine can raise blood pressure — tell your doctor if you are hypertensive.

How to store Efetil Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

A mild sulfur-like odor from Efetil Tablet is normal and does not mean the medicine has deteriorated. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Efetil Tablet, as this helps loosen mucus and improves airway clearance. You may notice a more productive cough as mucus becomes thinner, which is usually part of the medicine’s action. Take Efetil Tablet after food if it causes stomach upset or nausea. Avoid smoking and exposure to dust or irritants, as they can worsen respiratory symptoms. Do not combine Efetil Tablet with multiple cough medicines unless your doctor advises you to. If you have asthma, monitor for worsening wheezing and seek medical advice if breathing difficulty increases. Seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. Consult your doctor if symptoms such as cough, fever, chest pain, or breathlessness persist or worsen. If symptoms continue beyond 1–2 weeks, consult your doctor for further evaluation.
