Treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 infection in adults when prescribed by a doctor; may be used for other susceptible viral infections as per specialist advice.
Favipiravir is an antiviral that is converted in the body to an active form which inhibits viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. This blocks viral RNA replication and reduces viral multiplication.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Swallow tablet whole with water; can be taken with or without food. Follow the full course and dosing schedule (often involves a higher loading dose on day 1 followed by maintenance doses) as advised by the doctor.

Prescription-only antiviral; use only under medical supervision. Contraindicated in pregnancy and not recommended during breastfeeding due to risk of harm to the baby; effective contraception required during treatment and for a period after completion as advised by doctor. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney disease, gout/hyperuricaemia; monitor liver function and uric acid. Not a substitute for vaccination; seek urgent care if breathing worsens.
