How Foot Moist Cream works

This medicine combines 6 active ingredients: Dimethicone, Urea, Allantoin, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol and Liquid Paraffin. Dimethicone neutralises or reduces stomach acid, giving quick relief from burning and indigestion. Urea holds water in the skin and restores the barrier that dry, damaged skin has lost. Allantoin holds water in the skin and restores the barrier that dry, damaged skin has lost. Glycerin holds water in the skin and restores the barrier that dry, damaged skin has lost. Propylene Glycol holds water in the skin and restores the barrier that dry, damaged skin has lost. Liquid Paraffin softens the stool and encourages the bowel to move, making it easier to pass.

How to take Foot Moist Cream

Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer and rub it in gently. Wash your hands before and after use, unless your hands are the area being treated. This is for use on the skin only — do not swallow it. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe loose motions or constipation and disturb the body's salt balance. It is not a realistic risk from a moisturiser used on the skin. It can cause severe loose motions, dehydration and salt imbalance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Foot Moist Cream

Most side effects of Foot Moist are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Constipation
  • Loose motions
  • Chalky taste
  • Flatulence
  • Mild stinging on broken skin
  • Greasy feel
  • Rarely
  • a rash

Warnings and precautions

This is for short-term relief. See a doctor if you need it most days for more than a couple of weeks. Seek urgent care for chest pain that spreads to the arm or jaw, comes with sweating or breathlessness — do not assume it is acidity. Antacids interfere with the absorption of many other medicines. Take them at least two hours apart from anything else. Apply generously and often — several times a day, and always within a few minutes of a bath while the skin is still damp. Some paraffin-based emollients are flammable when they soak into clothing and bedding. Keep away from open flames and cigarettes. Stop if the skin becomes more red, itchy or sore after use. Drink plenty of water while taking any laxative, particularly the fibre-based ones — without it they can make constipation worse. Do not use stimulant laxatives daily over long periods without medical advice; the bowel becomes reliant on them. See a doctor if constipation is new and persistent in an adult over forty, or comes with blood, weight loss or severe pain.

Do not take Foot Moist if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Magnesium-containing antacids are avoided in significant kidney disease. Not for anyone with a suspected bowel obstruction, or with severe abdominal pain of unknown cause.

Interactions with other medicines

Reduces the absorption of thyroid tablets, iron, and several antibiotics — separate them by at least two hours. No significant interactions are expected. Laxatives can reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time.

How to store Foot Moist Cream

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Close the cap tightly after each use. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Foot Moist Cream

Take it after meals and at bedtime when symptoms are worst. Avoid late heavy meals, and raise the head of your bed if symptoms wake you at night. Use lukewarm water, a soap substitute and short baths. Smooth it on in the direction the hair grows rather than rubbing it in hard. Keep using it when the skin looks normal — that is what prevents the next flare. Increase fibre, fluids and physical activity — these treat the cause rather than the episode. Do not ignore the urge to go; a regular routine helps.
