Levofame 250 Tablet contains Levofloxacin 250 mg. It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.

Uses of Levofame 250 Tablet

• Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (acute bacterial sinusitis
• acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
• pneumonia)
• urinary tract infections (including complicated UTI and pyelonephritis)
• prostatitis
• skin and soft tissue infections
• and certain gastrointestinal infections as advised by a doctor.

How Levofame 250 Tablet works

Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Side effects of Levofame 250 Tablet

Most side effects of Levofame are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• nausea
• diarrhoea
• stomach pain
• headache
• dizziness
• insomnia
• rash
• photosensitivity

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Stop and seek medical help if tendon pain/swelling occurs (risk of tendinitis/tendon rupture higher in elderly and with steroids), severe allergic reaction, severe diarrhoea, or symptoms of neuropathy (tingling/numbness). May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Use with caution in epilepsy/seizure disorders, myasthenia gravis, kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), diabetes (may cause hypo/hyperglycaemia), and in those at risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV exposure due to photosensitivity. Not recommended for children/adolescents unless specifically advised.

Do not take Levofame if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

antacids containing aluminium/magnesium, sucralfate, iron salts, zinc/calcium supplements (reduced absorption), warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), antiarrhythmics/other QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, antipsychotics), NSAIDs (may increase seizure risk), antidiabetic medicines/insulin (glucose disturbances)

How to store Levofame 250 Tablet

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Drink plenty of water through the course. Separate it from antacids, milk and mineral supplements.
