How Maigesic-ER works

Maigesic 75mg Tablet ER is an antiepileptic medication. When given for epilepsy, it is believed to work by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain, thus preventing seizures. It is also used to treat nerve and muscle pain where it blocks pain by interfering with pain signals traveling through the damaged nerves and the brain.

How to take Maigesic-ER

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Maigesic 75mg Tablet ER may be taken with or without food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Maigesic 75mg Tablet ER, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, confusion, unsteadiness and slowed breathing, especially with an opioid or alcohol. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Maigesic-ER

Most side effects of Maigesic-ER are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Safety advice for Maigesic-ER

Warnings and precautions

This medicine causes drowsiness and unsteadiness, particularly when you start it or the dose goes up. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Never stop it suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause anxiety, sleeplessness, sweating and, in people taking it for epilepsy, fits. Your doctor will taper it. Tell your doctor about any change in mood or any thoughts of harming yourself. The dose is usually built up slowly from a low starting point — follow the schedule your doctor gave you rather than jumping to the full dose. Pregabalin comes under Schedule H1 from 16 November 2026 and will then need a prescription and a pharmacy register entry.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Opioid painkillers, alcohol, sleeping tablets and antihistamines all add to the drowsiness, and the combination with opioids can dangerously slow breathing. Antacids reduce the absorption of gabapentin — separate them by a couple of hours.

How to store Maigesic-ER

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Maigesic 75mg Tablet ER should be taken exactly as per the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. It may cause sleepiness. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires concentration until you know how it affects you. It may cause blurring or loss of vision. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice any changes in your vision. Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly. This can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, insomnia, and, in some cases, seizures. Avoid alcohol completely while taking this medication. Combining it with alcohol can significantly depress the central nervous system. This leads to excessive sedation, impaired coordination, and respiratory depression (slowed or shallow breathing).
