Meropenem 1 g (as meropenem trihydrate) powder for solution for injection/infusion
Treatment of serious bacterial infections such as pneumonia (including hospital-acquired), complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, complicated urinary tract infections, bacterial meningitis, septicaemia, and empirical treatment of febrile neutropenia caused by susceptible organisms.
Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. This leads to defective cell wall formation and bacterial cell death (bactericidal action).
For intravenous use only; reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection and administer as IV injection over ~5 minutes or further dilute and give as IV infusion over 15–30 minutes. Dose and duration depend on infection type, severity, kidney function and patient age; use exactly as prescribed, usually in a hospital setting.
Common side effects of MEROTEC-1GM INJ VIAL may include:
Prescription-only hospital antibiotic; use only for proven/suspected bacterial infections to reduce resistance. Adjust dose in renal impairment; monitor kidney function and blood counts during prolonged therapy. Risk of hypersensitivity reactions (cross-reactivity possible in penicillin/cephalosporin allergy) and severe skin reactions; seek urgent care for rash, swelling or breathing difficulty. May cause seizures, especially with CNS disorders or renal dysfunction. Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhoea can occur; report persistent diarrhoea.
