Oflotas Infusion contains Ofloxacin (200mg). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.

How Oflotas Infusion works

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

How to take Oflotas Infusion

For intravenous infusion only; administer by slow IV infusion as prescribed by the physician. Dose and duration depend on infection type and kidney function. Do not give as IV bolus or intramuscular injection; ensure compatibility with IV fluids and avoid mixing with incompatible medicines in the same line.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Oflotas Infusion

Most side effects of Oflotas Infusion are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• abdominal pain
• headache
• dizziness
• insomnia
• rash
• injection-site pain/phlebitis
• elevated liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections; inappropriate use increases resistance. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, confusion), QT prolongation/arrhythmias, severe hypersensitivity reactions and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea—stop and seek care if symptoms occur. Use with caution in epilepsy/CNS disorders, myasthenia gravis, heart rhythm disorders, and in elderly. Adjust dose in renal impairment. Avoid unnecessary sun/UV exposure (photosensitivity).

Do not take Oflotas Infusion if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Drugs that prolong QT (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, antipsychotics), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), antidiabetic agents/insulin (dysglycemia), warfarin (may increase INR/bleeding), NSAIDs (may increase CNS stimulation/seizure risk), probenecid/cimetidine (may reduce renal clearance)

Store below 25°C; protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep in original container; use only if solution is clear and container intact.
