Ethyl alcohol denatures proteins and disrupts lipid membranes of microbes, rapidly reducing bacterial and some viral load on the skin. It provides quick action but limited residual (long-lasting) effect.
For external use only. Apply on intact skin using sterile cotton/gauze and allow to air-dry before procedure. Do not apply on large areas or under occlusive dressings unless advised. Not for ingestion or internal use.
Common side effects of Surgical Spirit may include:
Highly flammable—keep away from heat/sparks/open flame. External use only; do not swallow. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes; rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs. Do not use on open wounds, deep cuts, burns or severely irritated skin unless directed by a healthcare professional. Use with caution in infants/young children due to risk of systemic absorption and skin irritation. Keep out of reach of children.
