Symptomatic relief of acidity, heartburn, acid indigestion and gastritis-like symptoms; may be used as an adjunct in peptic ulcer/GERD symptom relief (as directed by a doctor).
If this is a sucralfate-based ulcer coat suspension, it works by forming a protective barrier over ulcers/eroded gastric lining in the presence of stomach acid, shielding it from acid and pepsin. This allows healing and reduces pain/heartburn. Exact mechanism depends on the actual active ingredients.
Oral suspension: Shake well before use. Typically taken on an empty stomach (often 1 hour before meals and at bedtime) as advised by the physician. Keep a gap of at least 2 hours from other oral medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Common side effects of Ulcoat Sus may include:
Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient. Use with caution in kidney disease (risk of aluminium accumulation if product contains aluminium/sucralfate) and in patients on dialysis. May reduce absorption of several medicines—maintain dosing gap. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist, you have blood in vomit/stool, severe abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, or difficulty swallowing.
