How Zetacid 40 mg Tablet works

Famotidine is an H2-receptor antagonist that reduces gastric acid secretion by blocking histamine H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells. This lowers acid output and helps relieve acidity symptoms and promotes ulcer healing.

How to take Zetacid 40 mg Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take as advised by your doctor, usually once daily (often at bedtime) or as prescribed; may be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe loose motions or constipation and disturb the body's salt balance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). Long-term use should be under medical supervision. Hypersensitivity to famotidine/other H2 blockers is a contraindication.

Do not take Zetacid if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Magnesium-containing antacids are avoided in significant kidney disease.

Interactions with other medicines

May reduce absorption of drugs needing acidic pH (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, atazanavir). Use caution with other acid-suppressing agents (PPIs/antacids) and separate administration if advised. Clinically significant CYP interactions are minimal with famotidine.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
