Risperidone 1 mg (mouth dissolving tablet)
Treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders; management of acute mania and maintenance treatment in bipolar disorder; irritability associated with autism (as prescribed).
Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic that works mainly by blocking dopamine (D2) and serotonin (5‑HT2A) receptors in the brain. This helps reduce hallucinations, delusions, agitation and stabilizes mood.
Mouth dissolving tablet: place on tongue and allow to dissolve; swallow with saliva (water not necessary). Take exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Prescription-only antipsychotic. May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery until effects are known. Risk of weight gain, diabetes and lipid changes—monitor weight, blood sugar and lipids. Can cause extrapyramidal symptoms/tardive dyskinesia; seek help for abnormal movements. Rare but serious: neuroleptic malignant syndrome (fever, rigidity, confusion), seizures, severe allergic reaction. May increase risk of stroke and death in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (not approved for this use). Use caution in heart disease/arrhythmias, low blood pressure, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, liver/kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be needed.
