Zolpidem (5mg)
Zolnap 5 mg is used for short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling asleep and/or frequent night awakenings).
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Zolnap 5 mg contains Zolpidem (5mg). It belongs to the Non-benzodiazepine hypnotic (Z-drug) class of medicines.
Short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling asleep and/or frequent night awakenings)
Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic that enhances the action of GABA at the GABA-A receptor (preferentially BZ1 subtype). This reduces neuronal activity in the brain and helps induce and maintain sleep.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Most side effects of Zolnap are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Prescription-only sleep medicine; use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. May cause next-day impairment; avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence, tolerance, withdrawal and rebound insomnia—do not stop suddenly without medical advice. Can cause abnormal sleep behaviours (sleep-walking, sleep-driving, sleep-eating); discontinue and seek medical help if these occur. Use caution in elderly, liver impairment, respiratory disease (COPD/sleep apnoea), depression, and in patients with history of substance misuse. Avoid use with other sedatives. Seek urgent help for allergic reactions (swelling, breathing difficulty).
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids, antihistamines, antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) may increase levels; CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect; fluvoxamine may increase exposure; caution with serotonergic/psychiatric medicines due to additive CNS effects
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
Your doctor has prescribed Zolnap 5mg Tablet to help you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer. It is best taken without food, as a high-fat meal can reduce its absorption and effect. Take it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime and only when you have time to sleep for at least 7 hours. It makes you feel dizzy the next morning. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It does not affect total sleep time. However, it reduces sleep onset time and frequency of awakening at night. Never share your medication with any other person who also has a sleep problem. Inform your doctor if your sleep doesn’t improve after 7 to 10 days of treatment. Stop taking medication and inform your doctor If you experience sleep driving or memory loss. Do not stop taking medication suddenly as it may lead to anxiety, mood changes, and restlessness.
