Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic that modulates brain neurotransmitters, mainly by antagonizing dopamine (D2) and serotonin (5-HT2A) receptors. This helps reduce symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and mood instability.
Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Place the mouth-dissolving tablet on the tongue and allow it to dissolve; swallow with saliva (water may be taken if needed). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Common side effects of ZYPINE MD 2.5MG 10`S may include:
Prescription-only antipsychotic. May cause significant weight gain and metabolic changes (high blood sugar/diabetes, high lipids); periodic monitoring of weight, glucose and lipids is advised. Can cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery until effects are known. Risk of orthostatic hypotension, falls, and rarely neuroleptic malignant syndrome and tardive dyskinesia—seek urgent care for high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, or uncontrolled movements. Use with caution in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (increased risk of stroke and death), liver disease, seizure disorder, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, and prostate enlargement/urinary retention.
