Maintenance treatment of asthma, Maintenance treatment of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) to reduce symptoms and prevent exacerbations
How It Works
Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation, swelling and mucus production. Formoterol is a long-acting beta2-agonist that relaxes airway smooth muscles to keep airways open for long-lasting bronchodilation.
Directions for Use
For inhalation use only with a compatible DPI/capsule inhaler device. Use exactly as prescribed, usually 1 capsule inhaled twice daily; do not swallow the capsule. Rinse mouth/throat with water after each use to reduce risk of oral thrush; do not use for sudden breathing attacks (use a reliever inhaler).
Not for relief of acute bronchospasm/status asthmaticus. Use with caution in heart disease, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizures, and in patients prone to low potassium. Risk of oral candidiasis—rinse mouth after use; report white patches or sore mouth. Long-term/high-dose inhaled steroids may rarely cause adrenal suppression, reduced bone mineral density, cataract/glaucoma and growth effects in children—use lowest effective dose. Seek urgent care if breathing worsens or rescue inhaler is needed more often.

Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers may reduce effect of formoterol; other sympathomimetics increase side effects. CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir/cobicistat) can increase budesonide exposure. Diuretics and xanthines (e.g., furosemide, theophylline) may increase risk of hypokalemia; MAO inhibitors/TCAs may potentiate cardiovascular effects; QT-prolonging drugs may increase arrhythmia risk.
Storage Instructions
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep capsules in blister until use. Keep out of reach of children.
