Uses & Benefits
Maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to prevent symptoms like wheezing, breathlessness and chest tightness; not for relief of sudden acute attacks.
How It Works
Fluticasone is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation, swelling and mucus production. Formoterol is a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) that relaxes airway smooth muscles to keep the airways open for longer. Together they improve breathing and reduce exacerbations when used regularly.
Directions for Use
For inhalation use only. Use exactly as prescribed, usually at the same times each day; not meant for quick relief. Shake well before use, exhale fully, place mouthpiece, inhale deeply while pressing the canister (MDI), hold breath for ~10 seconds, then exhale. Rinse/gargle mouth with water after each use to reduce risk of oral thrush. Use a spacer if advised.
Not for acute bronchospasm—keep a rescue inhaler (e.g., salbutamol) available. Do not stop abruptly; use regularly for best control. Rinse mouth after use to prevent oral candidiasis. Use with caution in patients with heart disease/arrhythmias, hypertension, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, seizures, glaucoma, osteoporosis, active or latent infections (including TB). Seek medical help if breathing worsens after use (paradoxical bronchospasm). Monitor for pneumonia risk in COPD and for adrenal suppression with high doses/long-term use.
