Used to reduce inflammation and suppress immunity in conditions such as allergic disorders, asthma/COPD exacerbations (as prescribed), rheumatoid/autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus), dermatological inflammation, and other steroid-responsive conditions.

Deflazacort is a corticosteroid that decreases inflammation by inhibiting release of inflammatory mediators and reducing immune cell activity. It also suppresses overactive immune responses, thereby relieving swelling, redness, and pain.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed by your doctor, preferably at the same time each day. Usually taken with food or after meals to reduce stomach upset; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly—dose is typically tapered as advised.

Prescription-only corticosteroid. Long-term/high-dose use can cause adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, cataract/glaucoma, muscle weakness, skin thinning, and increased infection risk. Use caution in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, tuberculosis/latent infections, glaucoma, osteoporosis, liver/kidney impairment. Avoid close contact with people with infections (e.g., chickenpox/measles); seek medical help if exposed. Do not receive live vaccines while on immunosuppressive doses. Monitor blood pressure, glucose, and signs of infection; taper gradually if used for more than a few days.

NSAIDs (increased GI bleed risk), anticoagulants (warfarin—altered effect), antidiabetics/insulin (may need dose adjustment), CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin—may increase steroid effects), CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine—may reduce effect), diuretics (hypokalemia), live vaccines (reduced response/increased risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
