Monograph
Gel
Treatment of mild to moderate acne (acne vulgaris); helps reduce pimples, blackheads/whiteheads and post-acne marks. Also used for papulopustular rosacea (as prescribed).
Azelaic acid has antibacterial action against acne-causing bacteria and helps normalize keratinization to prevent clogged pores. It also reduces inflammation and decreases excess pigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase, helping fade post-acne marks.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer to the affected skin usually once or twice daily as directed by a doctor. Avoid eyes, lips, inside nose and broken/irritated skin; wash hands after application. Use sunscreen during daytime.
Burning/stinging, itching, redness, dryness, peeling, irritation
External use only. Do not apply on cuts, eczema or sunburned skin. Avoid contact with eyes/mucosa; rinse well with water if contact occurs. If severe irritation, swelling, blistering or allergic reaction occurs, stop use and consult a doctor. Use sunscreen and limit excessive sun exposure; may cause hypopigmentation especially on darker skin. Consult doctor for use in children or if you have asthma or very sensitive skin.
No major systemic drug interactions expected with topical use. Concurrent use with other irritating topical agents (retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alcohol-based cosmetics, astringents, chemical peels) may increase dryness/irritation; use with caution or stagger application.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep tube tightly closed; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
