Product details are provided by the manufacturer. Refer to the pack for complete information.
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), otitis media, and skin/soft tissue infections.
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops growth of susceptible bacteria and helps clear the infection.
Oral suspension. Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark, shake well before each dose. Measure with a dosing syringe/cup and take once daily as prescribed; may be taken with or without food (with food may reduce stomach upset). Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, rash
Use only for bacterial infections (not for viral cold/flu). Inform doctor if history of allergy to azithromycin/erythromycin/macrolides, liver disease, myasthenia gravis, or heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation). Seek urgent care for severe allergic reaction, severe diarrhea (possible C. difficile), jaundice/dark urine, or palpitations/fainting. Dose adjustment/monitoring may be needed in hepatic impairment. Pediatric dosing must be weight-based.
Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (separate dosing), warfarin/other anticoagulants (bleeding risk/INR monitoring), digoxin, cyclosporine, antiarrhythmics/QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol), certain fluoroquinolones, ergot derivatives (avoid)
Store dry powder at room temperature, protected from moisture and light. After reconstitution, keep tightly closed and store as per label (commonly below 25°C); do not freeze. Shake well; discard any unused suspension after the period mentioned on pack.
