Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 60,000 IU (1.5 mg) granules/sachet
Treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency, nutritional rickets/osteomalacia, adjunct in osteoporosis and fracture risk reduction, support in hypocalcaemia due to vitamin D deficiency
Cholecalciferol is converted in the body to active vitamin D (calcitriol), which increases absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine. It helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralization and muscle function.
Oral granules sachet: empty the contents into the mouth or mix with a small amount of milk/water/curd and consume immediately. Usually taken once weekly or as prescribed; can be taken with or without food (preferably with food containing some fat for better absorption). Do not exceed prescribed dose.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, weakness, increased thirst, increased urination
Use only as directed; overdose can cause hypercalcaemia and kidney damage. Use with caution in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypervitaminosis D, kidney stones, severe renal impairment, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. Monitor calcium, phosphate and vitamin D levels if on high-dose or long-term therapy. Seek medical advice if symptoms of high calcium occur (confusion, severe nausea/vomiting, excessive thirst/urination).
Thiazide diuretics (risk of hypercalcaemia), digoxin/cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcaemia), anticonvulsants like phenytoin/phenobarbital and rifampicin (reduced vitamin D effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduced absorption), systemic corticosteroids (reduced effect), magnesium-containing antacids (risk of hypermagnesaemia in renal impairment)
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep sachet tightly sealed until use and out of reach of children.
