Tablet
Bacterial infections such as urinary tract infection (UTI), respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), ear/throat infections (otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis), and uncomplicated gonorrhoea (as prescribed).
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to weakening and lysis of susceptible bacteria.
Tablet to be taken by mouth exactly as prescribed. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day and complete the full course even if you feel better. Swallow with water; do not skip doses.
Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, vomiting, headache, dizziness, rash, itching, increased liver enzymes
Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral illnesses. Inform doctor if you have history of allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins, severe kidney disease, colitis/antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, or liver problems. Seek urgent help for severe allergic reaction (swelling, breathing difficulty), severe/persistent diarrhoea, or skin blistering. Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live typhoid vaccine (reduced effect), other nephrotoxic drugs (use caution)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
