C-Tax 500 Injection

C-Tax 500 Injection contains Cefotaxime sodium 500 mg (equivalent to cefotaxime 500 mg) injection. Prescription required.

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra‑abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, septicemia, meningitis, and gonorrhoea; also used for perioperative surgical prophylaxis as advised by a doctor

Cefotaxime is a third‑generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin‑binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria.

For intravenous or intramuscular use only. Reconstitute the vial with recommended sterile diluent and administer as IV injection/infusion or deep IM injection as directed by a healthcare professional; dose and duration depend on infection severity, site, and kidney function.

Injection site pain/inflammation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, headache, dizziness, elevated liver enzymes, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia

Prescription antibiotic—use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to cefotaxime/other cephalosporins; caution with history of penicillin allergy. Monitor for severe diarrhea (possible C. difficile colitis), hypersensitivity reactions, and superinfection with prolonged use. Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment; monitor kidney function and blood counts during long courses. Use caution in patients with bleeding disorders or on anticoagulants.

Aminoglycosides (increased nephrotoxicity risk), loop diuretics like furosemide (increased nephrotoxicity risk), probenecid (may increase cefotaxime levels), oral anticoagulants/warfarin (may increase bleeding risk), live bacterial vaccines such as typhoid (reduced vaccine effect)

Store at or below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack. After reconstitution, use immediately or within the timeframe recommended on the label; discard unused solution.
