Monograph
Clotrimazole (1%w/w)
Treatment and prevention of fungal skin infections such as tinea (ringworm), athlete’s foot, jock itch, cutaneous candidiasis; helps relieve itching, redness and irritation in affected areas.
Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes. This damages the membrane, leading to leakage of cellular contents and death of the fungus.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly, then dust a thin layer over the affected area 2-3 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin; wash hands after use.
Burning, stinging, itching, redness, irritation, dry skin, rash
Do not use if allergic to clotrimazole. For external use only; avoid eyes, mouth, genital mucosa and open wounds. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation occurs, symptoms persist/worsen after 2-4 weeks, or if extensive infection is present. Use with caution in children; use in pregnancy/breastfeeding only on medical advice and avoid application on/near nipples before feeding.
No significant drug interactions expected with topical clotrimazole; avoid using with other topical products on the same area unless advised (may increase irritation).
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Keep container tightly closed and protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
